This week all of the stars again had to prepare for 2
dances. One solo dance and one head-to-head
dance off. The head-to-head dance off
has the top scoring couple challenging another couple. The challenged couple chooses the dance style
(3 styles to choose from, Disco, Rhumba and Cha Cha) with each style being used
only once. The winning couple from each
dance off gets 3 points. Since there
were 7 couples, the couple scoring the highest after the solo dances was
declared safe and did not have to compete in the dance off or worry about being
voted off. Guest judge Monday night was
Cher, and she also performed two of her own songs. All of the dances were to Cher’s songs.
Solo Dances:
Corbin & Karina started the night with an ArgentineTango
to Welcome To Burlesque, which former DWTS Professional Dancer Julianne Hough
also starred in with Cher. They brought
their A game again this week, but he was not quite as exact as he could have
been. It was an extremely sexy dance,
and they earned a 27 for it.
Leah & Tony performed a Viennese Waltz to I Got You
Babe. They chose to portray the meeting
of Sonny & Cher in the coffee house they first met at. The Viennese is a flowing dance, but people
don’t understand that it’s a very quick dance and that it is possible to get
behind the music. Cher said she was
enthralled with the interpretation of the emotions she felt that day. They scored a 25.
Brant & Peta did a Fox Trot to The Shoop Shoop Song
(It’s In His Kiss). The judges commented
that Brant is one of the few that is still growing and learning in his dances
and that he needs to refine the dances and his steps more. Carrie Ann pointed out that his knees have a
tendency to go inward toward the end of a dance. All 3 judges commented on their Star Quality
and that Brant has a lot to offer DWTS.
They scored a 27.
Jack & Cheryl did a Tango to The Beat Goes On. The Tango is different than the Argentine
Tango, the Tango is more flowing and the Argentine is sharp and quick. Jack is becoming a very refined dancer,
especially when needing to be in “hold” with his partner. Bruno actually stole one of Len’s compliments
and praised them for the Proper Classic Tango.
Cher said she had just seen a movie about the Tango and that he was a
great Tango dancing pimp. Apparently the
characters of the dance are a pimp and prostitute – first I’d heard that!! They scored a 27.
Elizabeth & Val did a Jazz routine this week. They had started out with one song, but when
Elizabeth heard that Bang Bang hadn’t been taken by any other couple she wanted
it and they had to start all over with new choreography. That cost her big time, because she was so
focused on the power aspect that she was one dimensional and also missed some
musical cues. Cher enjoyed the rough
edge of it, but the rest of her comments were bleeped out! They scored 25.
Bill & Emma’s routine this week was Disco. They performed to Strong Enough. Now the only disco I have seen has been in
movies, and I don’t mean Saturday Night Fever.
I am not any kind of judge on Disco, so I have to go by the pro’s
comments. Disco requires lifts which
Bill did very well. Cher said she “was
amazed he could get her up in all those positions.” (Bill’s comment was little blue
pills!) Carrie Ann said it was off beat, but he was magical and always made her
day better when she watched him, while Bruno said he was “gagging with
laughter”! They scored a 24 (lowest of
the night for solo scores). Twitter
before their dance that was popped on the screen was from Neal McCoy rooting
Bill on.
The last couple of the night was Amber & Derek. Their dance was the Rhumba to If I Could Turn
Back Time. Amber has had problems with
her knees and usually wears a brace during all rehearsals and the
performance. While she didn’t wear the
brace during performance she said that she had a tear in one of her tendons, so
they brought in a pro to dance with Derek during some of the rehearsals while
Amber watched and video taped it. She
learns very well and can translate what she’s seen to what she needs to
do. Cher and Bruno said she owned it,
but Carrie Ann thought that it wasn’t her best dance and that she had more
inside her she could have tapped for the dance.
They did well enough though that they scored the high for the night of
28 (10 from Bruno)and were exempt from the Dance Off and were safe for the
week.
Dance Off:
Corbin & Karina challenged Elizabeth & Val who chose
the Cha Cha. Both couples perform to the
same song one following the other, doing a 30 second dance. Judges liked Corbin & Karina’s dance
better.
Brant & Peta challenged Leah & Tony who chose the
Rhumba. The judges chose Leah &
Tony’s Rhumba.
Jack & Cheryl challenged Bill & Emma for the
Disco. Once again, Bruno was laughing
throughout the routine. Jack &
Cheryl received the bonus points.
We say good-bye this week to Brant & Peta. Brant had been worried a couple weeks ago
about not having the fan base to keep him in the competition and apparently his
fears were founded.
Next Week – Trio dances are on tap for next week. Each couple chooses a professional partner
and the three of them will dance together for one of their routines. Each couple will do two full routines next
week. The professional third partner is
either a voted off pro or a member of the dance troupe that performs between
dances and at the beginning of the show.
